How the age calculator works
The calculator counts complete calendar years from your date of birth, then the complete months after that, and finally the remaining days. This matches how age is normally stated, so someone who has had their 36th birthday but not their 37th is 36 years old, however many months have passed since.
Worked example
Someone born on May 15, 1990, on October 24, 2026, is:
- 36 years, 5 months and 9 days old
- 437 months, or 13,311 days
- 203 days away from their 37th birthday
Common uses
- Checking age requirements for school, sports leagues, licenses or retirement plans.
- Working out someone's age on a past date, such as when a photo was taken.
- Planning milestone celebrations like a 10,000th-day party.
- Filling in forms that ask for age in years and months.
Age in different cultures
Most countries count age from zero at birth, which is what this calculator uses. A few traditional systems count differently. For example, the traditional Korean age count started at one at birth, though South Korea adopted the international system for official use in 2023.
